Week # 26 - 02/23/2010

Week # 26 - The Sounds

So apparently this group has actually been around for a little bit and I am just finding out about them. I raided one of my best friends 18 year old daughters music over the weekend and found these guys. They are totally on the same wave link as Metric, Neon Trees and The Ting Tings. I have two songs by them from their album "Crossing The Rubicon". I had this album on repeat pretty much all day today at work. Hope I didn't drive the girl next to me crazy. Let me know what you think!!!!

Ok, get comfy, press play, then close your eyes and lean back and just imagine laying on a beautiful beach with a cool drink in your hand and the warm sun shining down on you and enjoy this weeks music selection. Cause I don't know about you, but where I am I could sure use a little warmth right about now.

Week # 24 - 02/09/2010

I know, I know, I am late getting this out, yet again. But where I am it is still technically Tuesday, with about 25 mins to spare.  ((I got a job this week, so I am kinda all over the place and I have to get a new routine down, so you might have to bare with me for a week or two till things get settled. Sorry))

This week I have a band that was recently in Atlanta and at 99x for a Live X recording. I watched some of the recorded footage from the event and really just feel in love with these guys and I hope you do too. The band Civil Twilight, is made up of Steven and Andrew McKeller and Richard Wouterswho, who are from South Africa and have been playing music together since they were teenagers. With influences by the likes of U2, The Verve, Muse, and Radiohead, these three guys weave their magic to create a sound that is inspired by British and American music with an atmospheric soundscape that is lush, feverish and exotic.

Please check out the links I have posted for you, but also check out these guys website:  http://civiltwilightband.com/. They have every song streaming for you to listen to as you tour around the site. So basically you get to hear the whole album before you buy it!!!! So once you have a listen and decided that you just gotta have it, you can get the album for $7.99 at both iTunes and Amazon MP3.  And I defiantly recommend that you do go ahead and get the album, it is GREAT!

Hope you enjoy! See you next week.

Week # 23 - 02/02/2010

Happy Groundhog Day!

This week I have a redhead siren songstress by the name of Florence Welch, she is Florence and the Machine. If you are a fan of Rilo Kiley, Tori Amos, and maybe even Feist, then you will really like the sound from this artist. I've spent the better part of the morning listening to her album and trying to figure out which songs I wanted to share with you. It was a hard choice, there are so many that I like. If you do like what you hear, Amazon MP3 does have the album for $7.99, not much of a discount, but it is a little less than iTunes.

I've been trying to come up with a way to describe the music Welch writes, but I can't come up with a better way of saying it then she does, so the following is from her website where she is talking about her music:

"I want my music to sound like throwing yourself out of a tree, or off a tall building, or as if you’re being sucked down into the ocean and you can’t breathe.  It’s something overwhelming and all-encompassing that fills you up, and you’re either going to explode with it, or you’re just going to disappear.” Florence writes her best songs when she’s drunk or has a hangover, because that’s when the freedom, the feral music comes, creating itself wildly from the fragments gathered in her notebooks and in her head. “You’re lucid,” she explains, “but you’re not really there. You’re floating through your own thoughts, and you can pick out what you need. I like those weird connections in the universe. I feel that life’s like a consistent acid trip, those times when things keep coming back.” Florence herself is a mass of contradictions: she’s tough yet she’s terrified, a bundle of nerves and passion, of darkness and pure joy. “I feel things quite intensely, which is why the music has to be so intense. I’m either really sad or really happy, I’m tired or completely manic. That’s when I’m at my most creative, but it’s also dangerous for me. I feel I could write some good songs, or break some hearts. Or tables. Or glasses.”

Hope you've enjoyed this week NMT. Let me know what you think.
