Week # 29 - 03/30/2010

Photobucket
Hey guys!  Sorry about missing last week.  In all honesty I just wasn't feeling any of the music I had on my list enough to share with you.  It is getting harder and harder to keep bringing you really great music that tops the week before.  I would love if you could send me a message with any suggestions for bands/musicians that you think I should check out to share with everyone else.

I did have a band that I wanted to look into and share with you guys this week, I had heard the album in a store while I was out shopping this weekend, I didn't make a note of it quick enough apparently cause the name I put in my phone didn't come up with any results for a band out there in the world.  Oh well, maybe my brain will remember it correctly one of these days.  So in the mean time I do have a guy for you to check out that was suggested to me by my best friend.  She had mentioned this guy to me before but I had forgotten to check him out.

This is City and Colour ((I know kind of a cheesy photo to share with you guys, but I love this photo of Dallas Green. Not only is he showing some love to my favorite animal, this picture also really showcases his amazing body art work. I found a cool b&w of him, but to really appreciate the tattoo art on him you need to have a color image.))

"Until a couple of years ago, Dallas Green was better known as the dulcet voice of Alexisonfire. The band's feverish live shows and rabid fanbase quickly earned them the distinction of being one of the most exciting and talked about bands in Canada.

During some time off between tours, Green assembled a collection of songs he had been writing over the years. He released a very limited pressing of the songs which he recorded using only acoustic guitar and his plaintive voice. Something in these tracks resonated with people in a completely unanticipated way. Not surprisingly, the songs found their way onto the Internet where fans started passing them around. With none of the obvious viral marketing that goes on now, there was a groundswell of interest in this unassuming collection of compositions. It was becoming clear that there was serious interest in what Dallas was creating. In 2005, Alexisonfire's sophomore album went Platinum, the band won the Juno Award for New Group of the Year, and Green quietly debuted his full-length album titled "Sometimes" under the solo moniker, City and Colour." (Source from City and Colour web site)

This is my favorite song by City and Colour, "Comin' Home", which can be found on his LIVE album.

And this is his song, "The Girl", from his most recent album "Bring Me Your Love"

Week # 28 - 03/16/2010

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!!!!!!

Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day and in honor of it I am featuring a band from Ireland.  Then a band that you probably know and don't realize it.  Plus one of the bands that was featured a few weeks back has their first album coming out today.

Sorry about missing last week, the beach was great!!!  Here is a picture from my hotel room.

The weather was really nice the first few days. Around Wednesday it started getting a bit cold and overcast, and then when I was packing up to come home on Thursday it was pretty much raining all day long, which did make it a little easier to leave.

So this week I have a band that most of you are probably familiar with and just don't know it yet, Phoenix.

If you have seen the Cadillac Crossover Commercial, Phoenix's song "1901" is the song playing. Have you bothered to check out the entire song yet?? I really like it. Phoenix is a French alternative rock band founded by Thomas Mars, Deck D'Arcy, Christian Mazzalai and Laurent Brancowitz in Versailles. So check out all of "1901" and one of their other songs, "Lisztomania".

Next up I have a band straight out of the Ireland in honor of St. Patrick's day, Sixteen Layers.

I am not all that familiar with these guys but so far I like their sound.  So check them out!!!  I have a video about the band and the guys talking about their journey so far plus one of their songs, "No Strings".

Sixteen Layers - Into The Hurricane

Back on Week # 21 - 01/19/2010 I featured a band by the name of "Neon Trees".

Well today their debut album "Habit" was released.  So if you really enjoyed the bands sound a few weeks ago you can now get their entire album for only $6.99!!!!!  YEAH!  Plus, if you are an iTunes junky, like I am,  you can get Neon Trees single of "Animal" as a FREE DOWNLOAD this week.

So here is there song Animal again and also one of their new songs from the album "In The Next Room"

Hope you enjoy!!!!  I hope everyone has a safe and very Happy St. Patty's Day!  See you next week.

Week # 27 - 03/02/2010

Thrice has actually been around the music scene since about 2002. But this group has just recently caught my ear with their latest effort "Beggars". I checked out the album on YouTube first, as always, you might be surprised by just how many albums you can pretty much listen to in entirety before you you decided if you want to buy it or not on YouTube... it's great! But I digress. The two songs that immediately stood out to me were "In Exile" and "All the World is Mad", which is why I have choosen those two songs for the feature from the band this week. So check these guys out. Let me know what you think about them.

Not sure if I am going to be able to get a NMT post up next week while I am out of town. So just like other weeks in the past, if I can't get anything up I will post extra the following week. But just a heads up..... if you like Broken Bells from Week #20, their self titled album comes out next Tuesday.

Hope you have a great week!
